In fact the internet is ideal for a home based business because you can get started without having to invest a lot of money. There are lots of options for starting an internet business but a few them are much more common than the others.

Far and away the most common home based internet business is having a blog. A blog is just a simple website where you can write about anything that you want. A lot of people will start a blog just to share their opinions and never try to make money with it. On the other hand a lot of people, probably the majority will start a blog to make money and still never make a cent. Usually money is made with a blog by selling advertising space, however in order to make money you will need to have a lot of visitors. Not only do you need a lot of visitors you need the right kind of visitors. If you have a blog about your personal opinions or your day to day life the people who come to your site are unlikely to buy anything so there aren’t going to be very many advertisers. If you want to make money with your blog you need to plan it out that way from the start and choose a topic that is related to something that people buy.

Another common option when it comes to a home based internet business is EBay. The idea here is to simply sell things on EBay. In the beginning you can sell stuff you have around your house but this obviously isn’t a long term solution. At some point you are going to need to find a supplier for your products. There are really two options here, if you are good at things like arts and crafts you may want to make your own products. The other option is to find a drop shipper who will supply you product at wholesale prices and ship them straight to your customer.

One option that a lot of people don’t consider when starting their own home based internet business is creating their own digital product. This can be anything that you like, an eBook, a video or even software. The great thing about digital product is that they have a massive profit margin, they cost almost nothing to produce and can sell for remarkably high prices. Of course the difficulty here is that you will have to actually create your product. This isn’t as difficult as you might think. An eBook for example doesn’t have to be nearly as long as a regular book. In fact once you get good at creating a digital product you should be able to do it in less than a week.
